Fit a video to a new aspect ratio, without black bars

Scales a blurred copy of the frame to fill the space, then draws the sharp original centred on top — nothing is cropped, and the padding looks intentional. Runs entirely on this device. The original audio comes along unchanged if it's AAC.

Two draws, one canvas

Every output frame is the same source frame drawn twice: once scaled up to cover the entire target rectangle and blurred, which fills the bars a plain pad would leave black, and once scaled to fit inside it without cropping, sharp, centred on top of the blur. Nothing about the sharp centre picture is touched — the same pixels, just resized. Nothing is cropped out of the original either; the blurred layer only ever shows in the strips the sharp layer doesn't reach.

Picking a ratio and a blur amount

9:16 is the shape almost every vertical feed expects; 4:5, 1:1, 4:3 and 16:9 cover the rest of the common cases, including fitting a vertical recording into a widescreen slot. More blur hides more of the stretched, low-detail edges of the cover layer, which is usually what looks best — the live preview updates immediately, so there's no guessing.

Why the audio sometimes doesn't survive

The video is genuinely re-encoded, because building the padded picture means drawing new pixels — there is no wrapper trick for that. Audio doesn't need to be, so it is copied across as compressed packets exactly like the site's other video tools do, provided it's AAC. Anything else would need a decoder and an encoder this tool doesn't carry, so it's dropped rather than silently guessed at, and the plan says so before you convert anything.

Nothing is uploaded

Decoding, drawing both layers and video encoding all happen in this page. There is no server here to send the video to, and the page's security policy blocks any connection to anywhere but this site. Here is how that is enforced.

How to blur-pad a video

  1. Drop the video in. Nothing is sent anywhere — the whole file stays on this device.
  2. Pick a target aspect ratio and adjust the blur until the live preview looks right.
  3. Set the range, output size and frame rate, then press Convert and download.
