This removes a password. It does not break one.
You type the password you already have, and the page saves you a copy that opens without it. If you have lost the password, nothing here will help — and you should be wary of any free site that claims otherwise, because breaking PDF encryption needs sustained compute that nobody gives away.
Why you would want to
Banks and payroll providers routinely send statements locked with your date of birth or the last digits of an account number. That is fine until you need to upload one to a form, attach it to an application, or search it later — most systems simply reject an encrypted PDF.
This is exactly the file you should not upload
A locked PDF is locked because it holds something worth protecting: bank statements, payslips, medical letters. Every other unlock tool asks you to send that document and its password to a stranger's server. This page has no server. The decryption runs in your browser and the page's security policy forbids this site from opening a connection anywhere but itself. Here is how that is enforced.
Your original is untouched
The file on your disk is never modified. You get a second, unlocked copy to download.
How to remove a password from a PDF
- Drop in the locked PDF.
- Type the password you already have. It never leaves the page.
- Press Remove the password and download a copy that opens anywhere.
